Kansas Jayhawks’ Ochai Agbaji wins another Big 12 basketball player of the year award

Kansas senior guard Ochai Agbaji has been named the 2021-22 Associated Press Big 12 men’s basketball player of the year in a unanimous vote of 17 media members who cover the league.

Agbaji, a 6-foot-5 Kansas City native, on Sunday earned conference player of the year honors in a unanimous vote of the Big 12 coaches.

Kansas State’s Nijel Pack was named first-team all-league by the AP on Tuesday with Agbaji, James Akinjo (Baylor), Izaiah Brockington (Iowa State) and Bryson Williams (Texas Tech).

The second team consists of Kansas’ Christian Braun as well as Timmy Allen (Texas), Adam Flagler (Baylor), Mike Miles (TCU) and Taz Sherman (West Virginia).

Mark Adams of Texas Tech is the AP coach of the year and Brockington is newcomer of the year. Adams received eight votes, one more than Baylor’s Scott Drew. Iowa State’s T.J. Otzelberger received the other two votes.

Agbaji is averaging 19.8 points a game on 47.7% shooting. He’s ranked second in the league in three-pointers per game (2.9).
