Kansas Jayhawks’ Ochai Agbaji named first-team All-American by The Sporting News
Kansas senior Ochai Agbaji has been named to the 2021-22 The Sporting News All-America first team, the publication announced Monday.
Other first-team TSN men’s basketball All-Americans: Johnny Davis (Wisconsin), Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky), Keegan Murray (Iowa) and Kofi Cockburn (Illinois).
Agbaji, a 6-foot-5 guard from Kansas City, led the Big 12 in scoring during the regular season at 19.8 points per game, which is 25th nationally.
The Oak Park High graduate finished second in the league in three-point field goal percentage (41.1%, 26th nationally) and in three-point field goals made per game (2.9 per game). Agbaji led the Big 12 with 17 20-point games this season and was a four-time Big 12 player of the week.
Agbaji ranks 22nd on the KU career scoring list with 1,514 points. He is sixth in three-point field goals made (233) and fourth in three-point field goals attempted (627).
The Sporting News second team: Bennedict Mathurin, Arizona; Jabari Smith, Auburn; Jaden Ivey, Purdue; Chet Holmgren, Gonzaga and Drew Timme, Gonzaga.
Agbaji on Sunday was named 2021-22 Big 12 player of the year and first-team all-league. He is on the final ballot of the Wooden Award and a candidate for the Naismith Trophy.
