FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
Bringing ‘em down. KU safety Kenny Logan — after a 15-tackle performance against TCU — is now tied for the Big 12 lead in tackles with 97. West Virginia linebacker Josh Chandler-Semedo is right behind him, ranking third in the conference with 96 stops.
Something at stake. West Virginia needs a win against KU to officially obtain bowl eligibility. The Mountaineers have reached bowl games in 17 of the last 19 seasons, which includes going 1-for-2 in opportunities under current coach Neal Brown.
Not a fluke. KU walk-on tight Jared Casey — a week after pulling down a game-winning two-point conversion against Texas — followed that up with a four-catch, 34-yard effort against TCU, which included a one-handed grab and also a game-tying touchdown in the fourth quarter. For the season, Casey’s 77.1 Pro Football Focus grade ranks second out of 34 KU offensive players, behind only quarterback Jalon Daniels.
Beat up. The Jayhawks will be short-handed in their finale, especially if running back Devin Neal and tight end Trevor Kardell are not able to go after suffering injuries against TCU. Amauri Pesek-Hickson is the only scholarship player left in KU’s backfield should Neal not return. If Kardell is out, meanwhile, the Jayhawks also only have one scholarship tight end or fullback available on the roster: Mason Brotherton, a freshman who has not had a snap this season.
Dandy Daniels. KU’s QB Daniels had another standout effort against TCU while completing 22 of 30 passes for a career-high 255 yards. His ESPN QBR score of 84.8 also was second-best in the Big 12 last week, behind only Baylor’s Blake Shapen. The previous week, Daniels’ QBR of 94.4 against Texas led all Big 12 signal-callers.
