‘That was Jared, wasn’t it?’ Watch KU parents celebrate after son’s catch beats Texas

Kansas fullback Jared Casey caught the two-point conversion pass on the final play in KU’s 57-56 overtime victory at Texas on Saturday.

Casey immediately knew where had to go next. After celebrating with teammates, he ran 100 yards across the field over toward his parents Karen and Jerry, who’d made the 11-hour drive from Plainville, Kansas to watch him play.

But, as their video shows, it wasn’t immediately clear to them that their son was the hero of the game.

“That was Jared, wasn’t it?... It was Jared!” Jerry Casey yelled after the play ended.

“Was it?” Karen Casey replied.

“It was Jared!”

“Was it really?”

Then their suspicions were confirmed as their son emerged from a pile of KU teammates with the ball.

Pandemonium ensued in the stands as he ran toward their seats.

“You’re the man Jared!...That’s our boy,” Jerry said.

Casey, a redshirt freshman walk-on, couldn’t have been a more unlikely hero for the Jayhawks in their monumental upset.

He had taken zero offensive snaps for KU. He was only forced into action against Texas following injuries to teammates Spencer Roe and Mason Fairchild.
