‘No ticket required’: KU Jayhawks open stadium gates after taking stunning lead on OU

The 1-5 Kansas Jayhawks football team entered Saturday’s home game against No. 3 ranked and 7-0 Oklahoma as 38 1/2 point underdogs.

But after KU took a 10-0 halftime lead and a 17-7 lead in the third quarter, KU opened the gates at Booth Memorial Stadium as the Jayhawks moved closer to a monumental upset victory.

“The gates are open on the east and west sides of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, no ticket required. Show up. Be loud. Rock Chalk,” read a tweet from the KU Athletics account.

Wow! They just announced on Kansas radio network that stadium gates are open, no more tickets required. “If you’re in town, come on down!”

Since 2013 — according to TeamRankings.com — 38 1/2-point underdogs or worse are 1-434.

While fans started to fill the empty pockets in the stadium throughout the game, Oklahoma eventually took the lead and won 35-23, improving to 8-0 and keeping its national title hopes alive.

Oklahoma was explosive after falling behind 17-7, putting up touchdown drives of three plays, four plays and four plays to pull ahead 28-17.
