Jayhawks were in his final five, but this NY prep hoops star picks Georgetown instead

Jordan Riley, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound senior combo guard from Brentwood (New York) High School who is ranked No. 136 in the recruiting Class of 2021 by Rivals.com, is headed to Georgetown on a basketball scholarship.

He made the announcement Friday morning in a ceremony at his school.

Riley last Saturday cut his final list to Kansas, St. John’s, Georgetown, Florida State and UConn. He eliminated Kansas State, DePaul, Georgia, Iona, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

His dad, Monty, told the New York Post it basically was a Georgetown-St. John’s battle at the end.

“Really close — really close,” Monty Riley said. “Don’t think this was an easy decision. As I’m talking to you now, we’re still thinking, ‘Is this the right decision?’”

Jordan Riley told Newsday.com: “I know they (Georgetown coaches including Patrick Ewing) are going to help me become a better college player and make it to the pros. And when I make it to the pros, they will help me, because I know they’ve played in the pros. So that’s what stood out to me the most.”

Jayhawks coach Bill Self recently had a Zoom call with Riley and his dad. Self offered Riley a scholarship on June 29.

As a junior, Riley averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists in leading his team to a 23-2 record and Suffolk Class AA Championship.

KU has landed two players in the recruiting Class of 2021. Zach Clemence, a 6-10 senior-to-be from Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas, committed to KU on May 11. He’s ranked No, 29 in the recruiting Class of 2021 by Rivals.com. Also, Keon Coleman, a 4-star football wide receiver prospect will attend KU on a football scholarship and play hoops at KU as a walk-on.

Coleman is a 6-4 senior guard from Opelousas (Louisiana) Catholic High School. He is unranked in basketball.

KU will have three scholarships to give to players in the Class of 2021, more if non-seniors turn pro or transfer.
