Kansas offers basketball scholarship to No 8-ranked player in Class of 2022

Kansas has offered a men’s basketball scholarship to Jaden Bradley, a 6-foot-3 sophomore point guard from Cannon School in Charlotte, North Carolina, he announced on Twitter.

Bradley, the No. 8-rated player in the recruiting Class of 2022 according to Rivals.com, is also being recruited by Kentucky and North Carolina, and has received scholarship offers from Texas Tech, Wake Forest, Florida State, Auburn, Xavier and others.

Bradley, the No. 8-ranked player in the recruiting Class of 2022 by Rivals.com, averaged 23 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 2.5 steals a game this past season.

“One of the things that gets lost is he does it without a lot of whistles,” Cannon School coach Che Roth told independenttribune.com. “He gets to the rim at will and plays with his feet in the paint all the time, so his numbers are pretty legit numbers. I think the most free throws he attempted in a game was eight or 10.

“He really wants to sit down and guard the other team’s best perimeter player. He’s such an unselfish player,” Roth added. “He was our quarterback, the engine that makes us go and he just makes everybody around him so much better. He’s is a competitor. He is really, really special.”

Towns picks Ohio State

Former Harvard small forward Seth Towns, who had KU on his list of possible graduate transfer destinations, has committed to Ohio State, he announced Saturday on Twitter.

Originally from Columbus, Ohio, the 6-7 Towns chose OSU over KU, Duke Maryland, Michigan, Syracuse and Virginia.

He has missed the last two seasons because of a knee injury that required surgery. He is expected to be ready for the start of the 2020-21 season.

Self ‘enjoyed’ live tweeting 2008 title game Sunday

KU coach Bill Self tweeted commentary during the rerun of the 2008 national title game, which ran from 11 am.-1 p.m., Sunday on CBS.

“I wasn’t great at it (tweeting). I’m not fast enough to keep it ‘real-timed’ very well,” Self told The Star three hours after the re-broadcast of KU’s classic 75-68 overtime victory over Memphis on April 7, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. “I enjoyed it. Hopefully it was an entertainment release for some people during this crazy time.”

Self was asked if he’d ever provide Twitter commentary in such a setting again.

“Heck, I don’t know if we’re going to win one. We’d have to win one,” he said. “Trust me, if it’s not the championship game, there will never be anybody else (with a replay) on CBS on Sunday during the NCAA Tournament again unless you win it all.”

Self said he had not watched the tape of the title game “in about 10 years. It all came back to me pretty fast.”

No news yet on draft entrants

Self said he did not have a timetable on KU’s current players possibly declaring for the 2020 NBA Draft.

“We haven’t even talked about that stuff yet,” Self said. “Does anybody even know how it’s going to work?”

The NBA Draft Combine for pro prospects was scheduled for May 21-24, but that date could be in jeopardy because of coronavirus concerns.

Non-seniors with eligibility remaining are allowed to declare for the draft. They can sign with agents and compete both at the NBA Combine and in individual workouts with NBA teams while debating whether or not to end their college careers.

Under NCAA rules, players have until 10 days after the combine to withdraw from the draft if they wish to retain college eligibility.

Those close to the KU program believe point guard Devon Dotson is expected to declare for the June 25 draft and remain in the draft pool following his standout sophomore season. It is possible the draft could be delayed because of the virus.
