Is KU a lock for No. 1 overall seed in NCAA Tournament? One bracketologist thinks so
Joe Lunardi, who projects NCAA Tournament seeds and teams for ESPN, has said the Kansas Jayhawks will land the overall No. 1 seed in March Madness no matter what happens in the Big 12 Tournament at the Sprint Center.
KU coach Bill Self said winning the Big 12 by two games puts his team in good position for a No. 1 seed but disagrees with what Lunardi said “regardless” of what happens in Kansas City.
“I don’t feel anything based on what Joe said,” Self said. “I think Joe has a good handle on this. I don’t know exactly what is being talked about in the (selection committee) room nor does anyone else. Joe could be accurate in that. ...
“We put ourselves in position to maybe be that. Who knows what will happen? Who will get hot? To me that is not a huge deal one way or another.”
If KU on Sunday is awarded the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Jayhawks will be allowed to choose the regional they wish to participate in.
KU turned in its choice for a preferred regional on Sunday night. The Midwest Regional in Indianapolis is closest to Lawrence. The South Regional in Houston could also be an option. Self said he would not reveal KU’s choice.
