Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team falls from No. 1 in latest AP poll
The Kansas men’s basketball team has some work to do if it wants to regain the No. 1 ranking this season.
Following Saturday’s 56-55 road loss to No. 18 Villanova, KU dropped from first to fifth in the latest Associated Press poll released Monday morning. Gonzaga was the new No. 1 with 54 of 65 first-place votes, followed by Ohio State, Louisville and Duke.
Wichita State just missed breaking into the rankings. The Shockers — now 10-1 with consecutive victories over Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and VCU — received 112 points, just behind 25th-ranked Iowa (125).
KU is one of four Big 12 teams ranked. Baylor moved up from 10th to seventh, while West Virginia (22nd) and Texas Tech (23rd) remained in the polls.
Villanova, following its one-point home win over KU, jumped from 18th to 10th.
