KU adds former UAB wide receiver Quincy Perdue
Two days after losing three potential starters, the Kansas football program has added some needed depth at receiver.
Former Alabama-Birmingham receiver Quincy Perdue is set to attend Kansas and will be eligible for the 2015 season. The news was first reported by Jon Kirby of Rivals.com.
Perdue, a native of Marietta, Ga., finished with two catches as a true freshman at UAB. A 6-foot-3, 210-pound receiver, Perdue was eligible to transfer without sitting out after UAB discontinued its football program following the 2014 season. The school has since reversed its decision, restarting the program, but it will not field a team in 2015.
Perdue, who will have three years of eligibility, could help fill the void left by the departure of receiver Rodriguez Coleman, a senior who was dismissed from the program on Tuesday for a “violation of team rules.” The same day, KU announced that starting running back Corey Avery was also dismissed while senior linebacker Jake Love was retiring for medical reasons.
The Jayhawks lost their top six pass-catchers from last season, including senior tight end Jimmay Mundine (45 catches) and senior receiver Nick Harwell (44 catches). Nigel King, who would have been a senior in 2015, elected to leave school and enter the NFL Draft. He went undrafted and landed a free-agent opportunity with the Miami Dolphins.
Entering the 2015 season, the Jayhawks’ primary pass-catching options could be senior receiver Tre’ Parmalee, sophomore tight end Ben Johnson and junior transfer tight end Kent Taylor.
