Former Texas A&M receiver Laquvionte Gonzalez headed to Kansas
One day after its spring game, the Kansas football program notched a couple recruiting victories, including a commitment from an intriguing transfer from Texas A&M.
Laquvionte Gonzalez, a receiver who spent the last two seasons at Texas A&M, announced Sunday on his Twitter account that he will transfer to Kansas. If Gonzalez, a former four-star recruit and native of Cedar Hill, Texas, lands on campus at Kansas, he would have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2015 season.
The Jayhawks also picked up an oral commitment from receiver Braylon Royal of Arlington, Texas, according to Rivals.com. Royal, who visited KU this last weekend, is the Jayhawks’ second known commitment in the 2016 class.
Royal, according to Rivals, had 20 receptions for 577 yards and 10 touchdowns during his junior year at Mansfield Timberview High School. But his speed — reportedly clocked in the 4.4 range for the 40-yard dash — caught the attention of the KU staff.
Gonzalez, meanwhile, is coming off a sophomore season in which he finished with five receptions for 77 yards for Texas A&M. He had 21 receptions as a true freshman in 2013. While at Texas A&M, he was coached by KU coach David Beaty, who served as the Aggies’ receivers coach. Gonzalez was also coached in high school by Cedar Hill head coach Joey McGuire, a longtime friend of Beaty from their days coaching high school football in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
