Zion Williamson is headed for Duke
Zion Williamson has decided to play college basketball at Duke.
Williamson, a 6-foot-6, 275-pound senior forward from Spartanburg (S.C.) Day School, who is ranked No. 3 in the recruiting Class of 2018 by Rivals.com, made the announcement Saturday night during a news conference at his high school.
Williamson during his recruitment made official visits to Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and Duke. He made several unofficial visits to Clemson and South Carolina.
Here’s part of ESPN.com scouting report on Williamson: “Williamson plays with more sheer force than we’ve seen in high school basketball in quite a long time as the southpaw’s combination of raw power and explosive athleticism is almost unprecedented. His wide-frame is thick from head to toe and built to play through contact. He’s a dump truck running downhill in the open floor and the most explosive leaper in the high school game who is both quick off his feet and able to elevate through contact with ease.
“He’s a good rebounder and ballhandler who excels at taking the ball off the glass to start the break and has a quick first step for his size in the half-court with the ability to attack both sides off the dribble. He’s deceptively long (6-foot-10 1/2 inch wingspan) and incredibly agile for his size and so can maneuver a crowded lane to find open space as well as he can bully his way through traffic. He is also a very good passer off the dribble and exceptional lay-up maker with body control and great touch off the glass.
Also … “He’s a polarizing prospect because he doesn’t fit in any conventional categories but combines unmatched power and explosiveness along with touch, playmaking instincts, and body control. While he has some undeniable star qualities, his unique attributes are going to require a team willing to tailor their system around him in order to be most effective.”
