With the Saturday forecast predicting severe weather for much of the Lawrence area, Kansas Relays officials on Thursday announced that all remaining events would take place on Friday at Rock Chalk Park.

The meet was originally expected to conclude on Saturday with a quandrangular competition between Kansas, K-State, Purdue and Colorado State.

“Our main goal is to make sure everyone — high school and collegiate athletes — have an opportunity to compete this weekend,” meet director Milan Donley said in a statement on Thursday. “Looking at the Saturday forecast, there is a high probability that many of the athletes would not have been able to participate. We feel that by moving events to Friday, we have a much better chance of achieving that goal.”

It will make for a crowded schedule on Friday, with events running from 8 a.m. to midnight. The meet is expected to conclude at approximately 12 a.m. with the running of the collegiate men’s and women’s 1,600 meter relays.

According to KU, the fields originally scheduled for the collegiate open and quadrangular events will now be combined. But athletes competing for Kansas, Kansas State, Purdue and Colorado State will still be scored as a part of the quadrangular format.

According to meet officials, single-day tickets will remain the same for Friday. The downtown Lawrence shot-put is still slated to begin at 6 p.m., Friday near the intersection of 8th and Vermont. For full schedule updates, go to KUathletics.com.
