The Kansas football program is no longer scheduled to play a home-and-home series with Hawaii in 2016-17, KU officials confirmed this week.
The Jayhawks originally scheduled a series with Hawaii, in part, to help foster recruiting connections on the islands. Former Kansas coach Charlie Weis had a history of recruiting the state of Hawaii while at Notre Dame.
Kansas now has open football dates in both 2016 and 2017. The Jayhawks’ non-conference schedule in 2015 features a season-opening home game against South Dakota State on Sept. 5, a home game against Memphis on Sept. 12, and a trip to Rutgers on Sept. 26.
In 2016, Kansas is set to play host to Ohio and make a return trip to Memphis. In 2017, the Jayhawks will begin a home-and-home series with Central Michigan and make the return trip to Ohio.
