Former Kansas guard Frank Mason — for the first time in a while — was nominated for an award he didn’t win.

ESPN announced late Wednesday night that the ESPY for best male college athlete went to Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson. Mason was one of four other finalists, which included Ian Harkes (soccer), Matt Rambo (lacrosse) and Zain Retherford (wrestling).

A football or basketball player has won the award in each of the last 15 years, with Oklahoma guard Buddy Hield taking the honor in 2016.

Mason can still go home to a full trophy case. He won nine of 10 college basketball player of the year awards this past season, which included the Wooden Award, AP player of the year, the Naismith Trophy and the Oscar Robertson trophy.
