Former Kansas forward Tarik Black on Wednesday signed a contract with the Houston Rockets, the team’s general manager, Daryl Morey, announced in a news release.

Black, a 6-foot-8 power forward, averaged 10 points and six rebounds per game while playing for the Rockets in the Orlando and Las Vegas NBA summer leagues.

A graduate transfer from Memphis, Black played a reserve role for Kansas during his senior season, averaging 8.4 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 61.4 percent from the field. Black, however, made the most of his one season at KU. While his playing time was often limited by foul trouble, he took on the role of mentor to freshman center Joel Embiid, who was drafted third overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in June.
