The Saints defeated Cornell 89-78 and lost 77-75 to George Washington. Fourth-year coach Jimmy Patsos is 53-52. His squad went 21-13 a year ago, 13-7 in the league. Senior guard Marquis Wright, who had 31 points against Cornell, went for 21 against George Washington. He has made a team-best seven three-pointers and is hitting 58.3 percent of his threes. Wright averages 4.5 assists per game. Senior forward Brett Bisping averages a team-leading 10.5 rebounds per game. He had 23 points and 15 boards against Cornell. Siena is 0-1 all-time versus KU. The Jayhawks beat the Saints, 91-84, on Jan. 6, 2009 in Allen Fieldhouse. Siena is 1-4 against Big 12 opponents and 6-43 against top-25 teams, losing eight straight. Last win against top-25 team was over No. 19 Vanderbilt in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Siena is 0-15 vs. The Associated Press top-10 teams.

▪ ABOUT KANSAS (1-1): Frank Mason’s 51 points in the first two games are the most for a KU player since Carl Henry scored 53 in the first two games of the 1982-83 season ( U.S. International and Bowling Green). Mason’s 14 assists in the first two games are the most since Aaron Miles had 14 in the first two games of the 2002-03 season (Holy Cross and UNC Greensboro). “To me he (Mason) has already joined it,” KU coach Bill Self said of his list of the toughest players he’s coached. “Sherron (Collins) is a tough, tough guy. Tyshawn (Taylor) … I don’t know if there’s been physically a tougher player that we’ve had here than Tyshawn, to just totally give his body up, kind of like an Allen Iverson type. As far as just a competitor and a pitbull, I don’t know if I’ve coached anyone better at competing especially at game point than what he (Mason) is.” The Jayhawks have won 42 straight home openers. The last home-opening loss was to Vanderbilt in 1972-73, a season in which KU went 8-18. This game, as well as the Nov. 25 home game against UNC Asheville, are two guarantee games for KU in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic. The Jayhawks also will play UAB on Monday (approximately 8:30 p.m.) and either Georgia or George Washington on Tuesday (6:30 or approximately 9 p.m.) in the Sprint Center. KU went 7-1 in two previous appearances in the CBE Classic, losing to Syracuse in the title game in 2008. KU beat Saint Louis in the 2012 title game.
