Kamau Stokes doesn’t return for K-State after hurting right knee
K-State starting point guard Kamau Stokes was hurt midway through the first half, falling to the ground in front of the K-State bench and clutching his right knee.
K-State coach Bruce Weber helped Stokes up, but Stokes needed assistance to make it to the bench, and he didn’t return. Stokes, a 6-foot freshman from Baltimore, has started 20 of 21 games and averages 9.9 points and 2.9 assists. He did not come out for warmups before the second half.
“He’s going to get an MRI, but we don’t know anything for sure yet,” Weber said. “Preliminary thought is that there wasn’t any structural damage, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
▪ Mississippi has two players on its roster with Wichita connections.
Junior forward Sebastian Saiz, who is out with an eye injury, is a Sunrise Christian Academy product. Saiz, who missed his fourth game in a row, is second in the SEC with 9.8 rebounds and averaged 10.4 points over the last 10 games he played in.
“It’s been hard with Sebastian out, because he’s our best post player,” Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said. “We don’t have anybody that can play up to that level he plays at, and we’ve struggled for answers in the post.”
Senior forward Anthony Perez, who played for Word of Life, scored a team-high 13 points.
