▪ ABOUT KANSAS STATE (2-0): The Wildcats will play their first road game against a familiar opponent. They played Long Beach State twice last season and once the year before. K-State has been successful with both small and big lineups, using Stephen Hurt, Brandon Bolden and Thomas Gipson to pound Southern Utah. Then it spread the floor with guards and Gipson and defeated UMKC. A balanced approach may be needed against Long Beach State, which possesses both size and speed.
▪ ABOUT LONG BEACH STATE (1-2): The 49ers are off to a 1-2 start with each of the losses coming against well-known opponents. They lost 95-90 at BYU and 97-74 at Xavier. Their victory came against San Francisco State. Mike Caffey is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 19.7 points, while Tyler Lamb is scoring 17 points a game. Long Beach State coach Dan Monson has guided the 49ers to the NCAA Tournament before. He also had success at Gonzaga.
