• ABOUT TEXAS (18-4, 7-2 Big 12):The Longhorns have won seven straight, taking over second place in the Big 12. Isaiah Taylor, Cameron Ridley and Jonathan Holmes have been the main reasons. Taylor and Ridley led Texas to a convincing victory over Kansas last week and Holmes has made several big shots during the Longhorns winning streak. Javan Felix hurt K-State in Austin, scoring 23 points. Rick Barnes is the early favorite to win Big 12 coach of the year. The Longhorns were picked to finish eighth in the league’s preseason poll.
The Wildcats have lost three of four after winning 12 of 13. The biggest reason for those struggles has been location. K-State’s only road win came at TCU. It has lost four straight road games since. Sporadic play from Shane Southwell, Thomas Gipson and Marcus Foster has also hurt. But the Wildcats hope to fix those problems by returning home, where they haven’t lost since Nov. 8. Gipson had a strong game against Texas in Austin, scoring 24 points, but didn’t receive much help on offense. Southwell was the only other K-State player to reach double figures.
