K-State football recruiting outlook

Top five recruits
NamePos.Rank*Ht.Wt.School
Terrell ClinkscalesDTN/A6-4315Dodge City (Kan.) CC

K-State may have picked up its top incoming recruit when Clinkscales switched from Nebraska last month. The defensive tackle was a force at Dodge City, and is expected to make an immediate impact on the Wildcats’ defensive line.

Dvonta DerricottLBN/A6-1230Garden City (Kan.) CC

This junior college linebacker drew attention from major programs all over the country, but he stuck with K-State after committing early. He could make a big difference on defense.

Dalton RisnerOL66-5300Wiggins (Colo.) HS

Don’t be surprised if Risner follows B.J. Finney and has a long career as a starting center. He chose K-State over Colorado, Missouri, Arizona State and other major programs.

Dalvin WarmackRB115-8183Blue Springs HS

He had a star-studded high school career, and could conceivably play as a freshman with John Hubert no longer on the roster. Warmack, a two-time Kansas City Star All-Metro player of the year and Simone Award winner, also had offers from Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma State.

Kaleb PrewettDB376-2197Blue Springs HS

The safety picked K-State early in his senior year and stayed with the Wildcats despite receiving offers from Missouri and Oklahoma State. He could be a future starter in K-State’s secondary.

One that got away

It looked like K-State had found a quarterback capable of taking over for Jake Waters and Daniel Sams until Aaron Sharp, a dual-threat player, switched his commitment to UCLA.

Still fishing for

For once, K-State got commitments for the bulk of its recruiting class well ahead of time. The Wildcats have more or less been done recruiting for 2014.

Position answered for

The Wildcats lost key members of their offensive line last season, but they brought in several quality blockers capable of competing for playing time. At the least, they will add much needed depth to the unit.

Position unanswered for

K-State is set at quarterback next season, but failing to sign a quarterback in the 2014 class could come back to haunt the Wildcats in a few years.
