• ABOUT KANSAS STATE (14-4, 4-1 Big 12):

The Wildcats appear to have found a rotation that works for them on both ends. Jevon Thomas is coming off the bench to make big plays in the backcourt, while Nino Williams is doing the same in the frontcourt. With Omari Lawrence and Nigel Johnson providing breathers, K-State coach Bruce Weber knows who to turn to in all situations. K-State has won 12 of its past 13 games. The Wildcats are 1-1 in true road games. The Erwin Center, though not normally intimidating, will pose a challenge.

• ABOUT TEXAS (14-4, 3-2 Big 12):

The Longhorns are overachieving in a season that was supposed to be rebuilding project for Rick Barnes. They have defeated Iowa State and North Carolina and they are off to a 3-2 start in conference play. After a year away from the NCAA Tournament, they may be headed back to the Big Dance. Cameron Ridley, Jonathan Holmes and Javan Felix have been the difference-makers. Ridley and Holmes form one of the best frontcourts in the Big 12. Felix is a solid, if unspectacular, point guard. Texas has lost two home games, to Oklahoma and Michigan State.
