K-State shares statement on George Fitzpatrick as he recovers from medical issue

A projected starter for the Kansas State football team is recovering from a “medical situation” as the Wildcats prepare to begin preseason practices later this week.

George Fitzpatrick, an Ohio State transfer who recently earned high praise from K-State coach Chris Klieman for his impressive play at left tackle, is currently working his way back from an undisclosed health scare that he suffered last week.

K-State and the Fitzpatrick family issued the following statement: “George had a medical situation to which the training staff quickly responded. He is improving every day and we appreciate all who have cared for and supported him as he continues to recover.”

The Wildcats released that statement to media on Monday afternoon.

But one of Fitzpatrick’s former teammates asked fans to pray for him over the weekend.

“I just wanted y’all to keep our former buckeye George Fitzpatrick in your prayers,” Ohio State football player Ian Moore wrote on social media. “I’m not going to go deep into it for respects of his family, but please pray for a speedy recovery and no complications. God Bless.”

Fitzpatrick is a 6-foot-9 and 309-pound offensive lineman who helped the Buckeyes win a national championship last season as a junior.

He transferred to K-State during the offseason and quickly began turning heads during spring practices.

Klieman thought so highly of Fitzpatrick that he said he had already “elevated himself to the top of the depth chart at left tackle” while speaking with reporters at Big 12 Media Days.

K-State players will report for the start of training camp later this week and hold their first practice on Wednesday.

For now, it is unclear when Fitzpatrick may be able to return to the field with his teammates.
