Avery Johnson explains why K-State is perfect team for new EA Sports video game

Why should gamers start a dynasty with the Kansas State Wildcats in the newest edition of the popular college football video game from EA Sports?

K-State quarterback Avery Johnson uses a question of his own to answer that query.

“Why wouldn’t you,” he said, “want to play with Kansas State?”

Johnson added yet another endorsement deal to his resume this week when he appeared in a social media commercial for EA Sports. In a short video that he posted to his Instagram account, Johnson outlined several reasons why he thinks the Wildcats are a great virtual team to play with in the video game.

“You should play with Kansas State, because our alternate uniforms are sick,” he said. “You can switch it up.”

The junior quarterback from Wichita is right on that account. K-State coaches rarely deviate from their traditional uniforms, which feature silver pants and purple jerseys or white jerseys.

But fans are in control in this game. They can mix in white helmets and/or pants whenever they please.

Johnson also thinks his avatar in the game is worth a look.

“You get to play, selfishly, with me,” Johnson said. “I’m a fast quarterback, a guy who can move around.”

Of course, K-State is more than just one player.

“And then you’ve got one of the fastest running backs in the game (Dylan Edwards) with a bunch of talented wide receivers,” Johnson said. “You get to play with our defense and we have got a solid defense and guys who are high overall talented guys. We have got some explosive guys on the offensive side of the ball.”

Finally, he said it will be fun for anyone to play with K-State because the game-day environment feels exactly the same in the video game as it does in person in the fall.

“You also get to see what us players see on an every day basis with fans throwing up the EMAW signal,” Johnson said. “It’s literally like you’re at a game and you get to do it from your house. It’s something that I want everyone to experience in person but (if that’s not possible) I want everyone to experience it virtually because it is literally the same.

Fans were able to pre-order and play the new EA Sports college football game earlier this week. The game went on sale across the country Thursday.

K-State linebacker Austin Romaine is the highest-rated player on the team, with an overall rating of 92.

The Wildcats are not ranked in the top 25 of the video game’s rankings, but they do boast the 19th-best defense in the game.

Johnson is here to tell you that he thinks gamers can exceed those expectations with the Wildcats.
