Game times, TV info and baseball matchups for K-State Wildcats at NCAA Regional

This is what the Kansas State baseball team has been working for all season.

At 6 p.m. on Friday, the Wildcats will play UTSA in a high-stakes game at Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas. The winner will advance to the winners’ side of their NCAA Regional along with Houston Christian and host Texas. The loser will need to bounce back immediately in the double-elimination pod.

Right now, anything feels possible.

“It’s an exciting time of year,” Head coach Pete Hughes said. “It’s the reason why we all came to Kansas State, to play in the postseason. Here we are. It’s the best time of the year.”

After leading the Wildcats to 31 wins in the regular season, Hughes is energized to try and guide K-State to a Super Regional for the second consecutive season and to the College World Series for the first time in program history.

The journey begins on Friday when K-State pitcher Jacob Frost is projected to go against UTSA ace Zach Royse on a neutral field.

Advancing out of the Austin Regional won’t be easy. But the Wildcats are up for the challenge.

“Texas was the regular season SEC champ by two games,” Hughes said. “That’s pretty sturdy competition. You look at our opponent for Friday in UTSA and they’ve won 44 games. That’s a lot of winning. Houston Christian had a great turnaround in their program in this past year. It’s a real solid tournament.

“When you don’t host, you know you’re going to walk into a venue that’s going to have its challenges. But I’m glad I’m going to walk into that venue with these guys, who are up for a good challenge and a good fight.”
