Jerome Tang lands Bowling Green basketball transfer for Kansas State Wildcats
Jerome Tang has, quite literally, made a big addition to the Kansas State men’s basketball roster.
Bowling Green senior forward Marcus Johnson, who checks in 6-foot-7 and 265 pounds, announced his intentions to transfer to the Wildcats via social media on Wednesday.
His decision comes one week after he met with head coach Tang and his staff in Manhattan on a recruiting visit.
K-State’s newest basketball transfer is a bit of an unconventional player. Even though Johnson’s size and position would suggest he spends most of his time battling for rebounds and tough buckets in the paint, he operates more like a wing and scores many of his points on mid-range jumpers and 3-pointers.
He is an interesting add as Tang works to rebuild his roster this spring.
The talented big man averaged 16.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists while playing down low for the Falcons last season. He was one of the top post players in the MAC during that time, scoring as many as 28 points and grabbing as many as 13 rebounds in certain games.
Johnson is also an excellent free-throw shooter. Last year, he drained 89.8% of his shots from the line on 88 attempts.
Perhaps his best showing came during a road game against Big Ten power Michigan State when he scored 23 points and grabbed five rebounds during an 86-72 loss to the Spartans.
Johnson began his college career at the Division II level, where he played for Wheeling (W.V.) and ranked 14th nationally in points per game while averaging 21.6 points during the 2023-24 season.
That type of production allowed him to transfer up to the Division I level. Next, he will get an opportunity to prove himself in the Big 12.
