Kansas State Wildcats add running back transfer after spring football ends
Chris Klieman isn’t done adding new players to the Kansas State football roster.
The Wildcats wanted to bring in new talent at several key positions after spring practice ended, and that is exactly what the K-State head coach has done.
Antonio Martin, a sophomore running back who rushed for 1,228 yards and 11 touchdowns last season with Southeastern Louisiana, has announced his plans to enroll at K-State and play football in a purple uniform.
Martin will actually transfer to K-State after spending the past few months at Louisiana-Monroe. He transferred there after a strong debut season in the FCS ranks. Now he is on the move again, this time to the Big 12.
It was a whirlwind recruitment for Martin. The 5-foot-11 and 220-pound playmaker from Atlanta entered his name into the transfer portal on April 25 and he committed to K-State on May 1.
He will be expected to add valuable depth to the K-State backfield as he looks to complement fellow running backs Dylan Edwards and Joe Jackson.
This is the third football transfer that Klieman and his coaching staff have landed this week. Martin joins Penn State transfer JB Nelson and Pitt transfer Terrence Enos, who both play on the offensive line.
Martin has been busy in the transfer portal since he played his first college game. He started out at Georgia Tech but spent his freshman year on the sideline with a redshirt. Then he transferred to Blinn College and rushed for 603 yards and five touchdowns at the junior college.
He got his big break at Southeastern Louisiana. He had several big games with the Lions, including 206 yards and three touchdowns against Tarleton State and 185 yards and two touchdowns against Texas A&M Commerce.
Next up, he will try to prove himself with the Wildcats.
