Kansas State Wildcats honor star forward David N’Guessan in special way on senior day

His parents couldn’t make it to Bramlage Coliseum on Saturday for his final home game with the Kansas State men’s basketball team, but David N’Guessan didn’t walk alone as he was honored before tip.

K-State players came up with a creative way to honor the senior forward.

Everyone on the roster formed a line behind N’Guessan as he was introduced to the crowd. Then the Wildcats gathered around him for a team photo as he held a framed jersey to commemorate his basketball career in Manhattan.

A moment that is usually reserved for family became more for N’Guessan.

It meant a lot to him, as he could be seen wiping away tears from his eyes at the end of the senior day ceremony.

“It was kind of a surprise for me,” N’Guessan said afterward. “My family couldn’t be here because of different reasons. They got to be here last year. I know they support me and I love them a lot. But my teammates here are my other family. They showed up for me and I definitely appreciate it.”

N’Guessan is originally from the Netherlands, and his parents were in attendance for his final home game last year. He later decided to return to K-State for an extra season, so he did not urge them to make the trip this time around. They did record a special greeting for him, though, and K-State played it before Saturday’s game against Iowa State.

The crowd gave N’Guessan the biggest applause of the senior class.

N’Guessan has spent three years with the Wildcats. He helped K-State win 26 games and reach the Elite Eight as a junior. This season, he has been K-State’s best all-around player. He is averaging 13.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.

The senior finished with 19 points, seven rebounds in a senior day defeat to Iowa State.
