Michael Beasley addresses marijuana arrest following his weekend trip to Kansas State

Former Kansas State basketball star Michael Beasley shared a heartfelt message on social media after his weekend trip to Manhattan ended with an arrest for marijuana possession.

“Taking a moment to address the situation and move forward,” he wrote on Instagram. “I take full accountability for what happened (Sunday). Thought it’s still fresh, I’m already focused on learning and making better decisions.”

Beasley was arrested for marijuana possession at 5:12 a.m. on Sunday at Manhattan Regional Airport, according to the Riley County Police Department’s daily arrest log. He was not confined after paying a bond of $750.

The former K-State and NBA basketball player was in town to watch his first game as a fan inside Bramlage Coliseum. He sat in the front row as the Wildcats defeated the rival Kansas Jayhawks 81-73 in front of a sellout crowd.

He cheered throughout the game and took many photographs with K-State fans throughout the course of the afternoon. He also spoke with head coach Jerome Tang and players.

“Everyone is treating me like I’m a cool guy,” Beasley said afterward. “I didn’t realize I would get this much respect as a former player.”

It was a good experience for him, even though his weekend trip ended on a low note.

“Returning to Manhattan felt like coming home,” Beasley wrote on social media. “That win over KU truly showcased the heart and resilience of our community. I extend my sincere gratitude to Coach Tang, the staff and the dedicated KSU fans for their unwavering support.”

Beasley was an All-American for the Wildcats during his lone college season in 2007-08. He averaged 26.2 points and 12.4 rebounds that season while leading K-State to a trip to the NCAA Tournament. He went on to become the No. 2 pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. He played 11 years in the NBA for several different teams, including the Miami Heat and New York Knicks.
