Kansas State’s most experienced offensive lineman set to play extra year for Wildcats

The Kansas State football team will return more starters on its offensive line than originally expected.

Taylor Poitier, a 6-foot-3 and 305-pound senior from Kansas City, has been granted an extra year of college eligibility. And he has decided to use it for one more season with the Wildcats.

Poitier announced his intentions on Thursday night with a short post on social media.

It read: “Why not? Let’s do this thing.”

This is good news for K-State football coach Chris Klieman, as he is set to return a sixth-year blocker who has more experience than any other offensive lineman on the roster. Poitier started all 13 games at right guard for the Wildcats last season, and he played an important role on a team that won nine games.

Poitier also saw action in all 13 games in 2023. Overall, he has seen nearly 2,000 snaps during his time at K-State. He will be expected to lead the offensive line next season along with returning center Sam Hecht. New starters are set to take over at the other three positions up front.

Poitier said in December that he had requested a waiver from the NCAA to play another year, because he missed all but one game during the 2021 and 2022 seasons with injuries. If the waiver was granted, he said he would have a difficult decision to make between remaining in college for one more year and moving on to the next chapter of his life.

In the end, he couldn’t pass up on an extra season with the Wildcats.
