About Oklahoma State (10-9, 2-6 Big 12)

The Cowboys are coming off a 64-54 loss against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. That game was played on the road, and Oklahoma State has been a miserable team away from home since Big 12 play began. The Cowboys are 0-4 in conference road games, with all four losses coming by double digits (vs. West Virginia, Utah, BYU and Texas Tech).

Abou Ousmane leads OSU in scoring while Bryce Thompson is the best player in the Cowboys’ backcourt. Ousmane led Oklahoma State to a 79-66 victory over Kansas State earlier this season by scoring 27 points and grabbing five rebounds.

About Kansas State (8-11, 2-6 Big 12)

The Wildcats are coming off a 73-60 victory over the West Virginia Mountaineers. That was an important victory for K-State, as it halted a six-game losing streak.

Jerome Tang’s team has been playing better of late, despite its losing record. The Wildcats have covered the spread in four straight games and scored an outright win against WVU. Point guard Dug McDaniel has averaged 16 points in K-State’s conference victories. David N’Guessan leads the team in scoring at 12.7 points per game. Ugonna Onyenso could play an important role in this game against Oklahoma State’s big men.

K-State game prediction

This is a revenge game for the Wildcats.

Coach Jerome Tang and his team suffered one of their most embarrassing losses of the season earlier this month when Oklahoma State handed them a 79-66 defeat at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

According to the oddsmakers, that was supposed to be a toss-up game, but the Cowboys built a 20-point lead and crushed the Wildcats behind 27 points from big man Abou Ousmane.

Normally, that type of performance would suggest that this a bad matchup for K-State. But I don’t think that is actually the case. Oklahoma State caught K-State at a great time earlier this month, as the Wildcats were unexpectedly stuck on the road for five days leading up to tipoff because of a blizzard that descended upon Manhattan and much of the Midwest.

That won’t be a problem in the rematch. K-State has been at home all week and the Wildcats have looked like an improved team of late. College basketball statistician Bart Torvik rates K-State as the nation’s No. 30 team over the past two weeks. That is a big improvement from KSU’s rating (No. 107) through 15 games.

K-State has been much more efficient on offense during its past four games. The Wildcats have limited turnovers and gotten the ball to their best playmakers.

Onyenso has also joined the rotation to give them an extra rim protector to help defend against a talented forward like Ousmane.

Kansas State should also benefit from playing this game at home. The Cowboys haven’t been able to stay within single digits in all four of their conference road games this season. West Virginia, Utah and BYU all blasted them by 15 or more.

K-State is trending up. Oklahoma State is trending down.

I like the Wildcats to win their second straight game and to cover the spread in a comfortable home victory.

K-State 74, Oklahoma State 63

Last game prediction: K-State 64, West Virginia 62

Actual score: K-State 73, West Virginia 60

Season record: 13-6

Season record ATS: 8-11

Season record O/U: 8-11.
