It is starting to feel like nothing can slow down the Kansas State women’s basketball team.

The Wildcats overcame an off night from their best player and beat Arizona 62-47 on Thursday at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan.

It was their 13th straight victory. And they remained perfect in Big 12 play on a night when they only got six points and six rebounds from star center Ayoka Lee.

Her quiet effort allowed Arizona to throw a minor scare into K-State when the visiting team pulled within four points in the final moments of the third quarter. But K-State showed poise and pulled away by scoring the next 12 points to take a 57-41 lead.

Serena Sundell appropriately got the run started with a pair of free throws. The senior point guard led the Wildcats with 16 points and eight assists. Six of her points came in clutch moments. Her brilliant season continues.

Temira Poindexter, who drained four 3-pointers on her way to 14 points, also came up with some important buckets in the fourth quarter. She has been an impact transfer since joining the roster from Tulsa.

That was enough to give K-State (18-1, 6-0 Big 12) an important victory as it looks to remain in command of the conference race. Arizona (11-8, 3-3 Big 12) lost its third straight game.

It was far from a perfect night, but Kansas State head coach Jeff Mittie will take the result.

No. 10 K-State will look to continue its winning streak when the Wildcats return to action against Arizona State on Sunday at home.
