The first game after a holiday tournament can sometimes be difficult for college basketball teams.

Not Kansas State.

The Wildcats made history as they returned from the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam and obliterated Arkansas-Pine Bluff by the score of 120-73 on Saturday inside Bramlage Coliseum. K-State set a new school record for points in a game during the victory.

Ten different players scored for K-State. Six different players reached double figures. And four topped 15 points.

Achor Achor led the way with a game-high 21 points followed by 18 points from Dug McDaniel and 17 each from David N’Guessan and David Castillo.

The Wildcats did much of their damage from the 3-point line, as they connected on 21 of 40 shots from beyond the arc. K-State nearly made more history in that department. The Wildcats have only made more 3-pointers in one other game in school history.

Jerome Tang’s team put on a shooting clinic from everywhere against the overmatched Golden Lions. The Wildcats made 62% of their shots from within the arc and 53% from beyond the arc.

K-State led 63-33 at halftime and never looked back.

This was exactly the type of game that K-State (6-2) needed against UAPB (1-8) before its schedule gets harder.

There are no more warmup games left. Up next is a road game against St. John’s on Saturday. After that, K-State will play Drake and Wichita State away from home. Then Big 12 play begins.

A tough road awaits the Wildcats. They will hope to continue scoring the way they did in this game.
