Kansas State coordinator shares injury update on key linebackers ahead of Tulane game
Kansas State defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman is cautiously optimistic that the Wildcats will return to full strength at an important position when they hit the road to play Tulane on Saturday at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans.
Two of the team’s best linebackers, Austin Moore and Asa Newsom, are trending toward playing against the Green Wave after missing action last week during a 41-6 victory over Tennessee-Martin.
Newsom didn’t play at all against the Skyhawks. He has been working his way back from an injury that ended his season early a year ago. This might be his week for a return to action.
“He practiced yesterday,” Klanderman said. “So I would expect that he would go. I haven’t heard of any setbacks today.”
Moore has piled up 173 tackles for the Wildcats, and one of those came against UT Martin. But he sat out the second half of the season-opener for what head coach Chris Klieman described as “precautionary” reasons as he nursed a minor injury.
Things are also looking up for his status.
“He’s much better,” Klanderman said. “That was a little situation last week that was unfortunate. But I knew if there was anybody that’s going to go, he’s going to go. He’s one of the toughest guys I’ve been around.”
