Here’s what Jerome Tang expects from transfer Ques Glover ahead of his K-State debut

Jerome Tang will ring in the new year by adding a new player to Kansas State’s basketball rotation.

After spending the first 12 games of the season on the sideline with a lower-body injury, senior guard Ques Glover is set to make his debut for the Wildcats when they play Chicago State at 7 p.m. on Tuesday inside Bramlage Coliseum.

That is an exciting development for K-State, which could use reinforcements before it starts Big 12 play later this week.

Glover is capable of making an immediate impact. The 6-foot guard has loads of experience after spending the past four years playing for Florida and Samford. Last season, he averaged 14.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists while starting 18 games for the Bulldogs. Adding anything close to those numbers to the K-State roster midseason could be a major boost for the Wildcats.

“When he comes back,” Tang said, “it is going to add another guy who has the potential to give you double figures on any night and an experienced ball-handler that is going to help us.”

Last summer, it looked like Glover was going to transfer to BYU and finish out his college basketball career with the Cougars. But he re-evaluated his options in August and K-State jumped at the opportunity to add him late in the recruiting process.

Tang and his coaching staff had high expectations for Glover when he arrived on campus. If nothing else, they thought he could come off the bench and take some pressure off of Tylor Perry and Cam Carter in the scoring department.

But Glover was unable to show what he could do during the first half the season because he suffered an injury in K-State’s lone exhibition game.

Rather than rush him back to the court, Tang asked Glover to spend several months recovering from his injury so he could return completely healthy in January. Tang was so committed to that plan that he held Glover out of last week’s victory over Wichita State even though Glover was running at full speed during practice.

Tang wants Glover healthy for the remainder of the season.

He could help the Wildcats (9-3) make a push for the NCAA Tournament.

“He has got a burst,” Tang said. “He’s fast and he plays downhill. That is going to help us. He has got the ability to catch it and just go by dudes, and he has a really good mid-range game. With his experience, he could be a really good on-the-ball defender and disrupt other teams because of his strength. He is 23 years old. Just adding that experience that he has out there is going to help us. It’s going to make the game easier for everybody.”
