It is finally happening.

For the first time since they began playing football at Kansas State, the Wildcats are heading to Florida for a bowl game.

The Wildcats accepted an invitation to the Pop-Tarts Bowl on Sunday. The postseason game will be played at 4:45 p.m. Central Time on Dec. 28 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. While there, K-State will face off against one of the top teams from the ACC ... North Carolina State.

K-State earned a spot in the Pop-Tarts Bowl after winning eight games in the regular season and finishing in a tie for fourth in the Big 12 standings.

This will be a new experienced for everyone involved with the football team. K-State has played in 24 bowls located in seven different states, but none of them have been played in the Sunshine State.

A week of football practice in warm weather and trips to famous amusement parks awaits the Wildcats in Orlando.

K-State has also never before played North Carolina State.

The Wolfpack won nine games this season and finished the year in the AP Top 25.

For those unfamiliar with the Pop-Tarts Bowl, the game has been around since 1990 but it has changed names and sponsors many times over the years. It started out as the Blockbuster Bowl and has also been known as the Carquest Bowl, MicronPC.com Bowl, Tangerine Bowl, Champs Sports Bowl, Russell Athletic Bowl, Camping World Bowl and Cheez-It Bowl.

Now that Pop-Tarts has taken over as title sponsor, you can count on the popular food item to be a star of the game. And it’s expected that an edible mascot will be roaming the sidelines — players from the winning team will celebrate by taking a bite out of it.
