Long list of KU Jayhawks, K-State Wildcats earn accolades on All-Big 12 football team

Both the Kansas Jayhawks and the K-State Wildcats are well represented on the All-Big 12 football teams this season.

The league announced its all-conference awards on Wednesday, as voted on by coaches. A grand total of 12 KU football players and 22 K-State football players were honored in one form or another.

Cooper Beebe was the biggest winner in the state.

The senior left guard from Kansas City was named Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year for the second straight season. He is on the fifth player in league history to win the award in back-to-back years. He was also named to the All-Big 12 first team for the third time.

No wonder he is a finalist for the Outland Trophy.

Other K-State winners included tight end Ben Sinnott, who made the first team as a fullback. Senior quarterback Will Howard was named to the second team along with linebacker Austin Moore and defensive back Kobe Savage.

At least one Big 12 coach thought enough of Howard to vote for him as Offensive Player of the Year. Another voted Moore for Defensive Player of the Year.

A long list of other K-State players received honorable mention: Jack Blumer, Phillip Brooks, DJ Giddens, Hayden Gillum, Avery Johnson, Will Lee, KT Leveston, Brendan Mott, Jacob Parrish, Seth Porter, Desmond Purnell, Austin Romaine, Uso Seumalo, Marques Sigle, Chris Tennant, Treshaun Ward and Carver Willis.

For the Jayhawks, it was also a successful year.

Three different KU players earned first team honors. They were offensive lineman Dominick Puni, defensive lineman Austin Booker and defensive back Cobee Bryant.

Running back Devin Neal made the second team along with defensive back Kenny Logan.

KU honorable mention winners were Lawrence Arnold, Jason Bean, Austin Booker, Mello Dotson, Mason Fairchild, Mike Novitsky and Jereme Robinson.

Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon won Offensive Player of the Year. Texas defensive lineman T’Vondre Sweat was named Defensive Player of the Year. Coach of the Year went to Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy.
