Kansas State shortstop Nick Goodwin selected in seventh round of 2023 MLB Draft

The Kansas State baseball team is sending a new player to the major leagues.

Nick Goodwin, a junior shortstop who grew up in Overland Park, was selected with the No. 214 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft on Monday. His new organization: The Toronto Blue Jays.

Toronto selected Goodwin in the seventh round after he put together a strong four-year career with the Wildcats. His approximate pick value is $238,7000, according to MLB.com.

Goodwin is a 6-foot-1 and 205-pound infielder who earned All-Big 12 honorable mention in each of the past three seasons. Before that, he was a star high school player at St. Thomas Aquinas. As a junior, he was named a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award after starting all 59 games for the Wildcats in 2023.

He hit .285 with 57 RBI and 12 home runs for K-State this past season.

Goodwin is the highest pick that K-State has produced since 2021, when Jordan Wicks went in Round 1 and Carson Seymour was selected in Round 6. The Wildcats had three players picked last year.
