Kansas State lands impact running back transfer Treshaun Ward from Florida State
The Kansas State football team has received a double-dose of good news that could significantly boost the Wildcats on offense next season.
K-State landed a coveted transfer and retained the services of one of its best veteran receivers on Tuesday.
Let’s start with the transfer news. Treshaun Ward, a coveted running back transfer from Florida State, announced his intentions to continue his college football career at K-State via social media. The 5-foot-10, 189-pound back recently finished his sophomore season with the Seminoles and will join the Wildcats after rushing for 628 yards and seven touchdowns last year.
He was at his best during his final game when he rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns during a victory over Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl. He ranked second on the team behind Trey Benson in rushing yardage in 2022. Ward originally walked-on to Florida State and spent four seasons there. He totaled 1,241 yards and 12 touchdowns with the Seminoles, and he has two years of eligibility remaining because he took a redshirt and played during the COVID-altered 2020 season.
Ward chose K-State after visiting campus last week and receiving recruiting interest from some SEC schools.
There is an obvious hole in K-State’s backfield next season with Deuce Vaughn off to the NFL. The Wildcats must find a way to replace the 1,936 all-purpose yards and 12 touchdowns he produced while helping the team win 10 games and claim a Big 12 championship. That is one reason why a player like Ward was interested in joining the Wildcats.
As an impact transfer, he will likely play alongside redshirt freshman D.J. Giddens next season. Giddens amassed 518 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 2022.
But that wasn’t the only good news K-State received on offense.
The Wildcats also got a boost when Phillip Brooks announced his plans to return to campus for one more year in Manhattan. A 5-foot-7 senior from Lee’s Summit, Brooks decided to return to K-State as a “super senior” next season.
His presence on the perimeter will be a welcome return for quarterback Will Howard. Brooks caught 45 passes for 587 yards and four touchdowns this past season. His role within the offense will likely grow next season following the departures of teammates Kade Warner and Malik Knowles.
