Kansas State Wildcats beat Nebraska for Colorado tight end recruit Andrew Metzger

The Kansas State football team has won an important recruiting battle a few days before the early signing period is set to begin.

Andrew Metzger, a 6-foot-5 and 235-pound tight end from Aurora, Colorado, announced his intentions to play for the Wildcats via social media on Monday. The three-star recruit chose K-State over Nebraska and his home-state Buffaloes.

Metzger was originally committed to Colorado but decided to re-evaluate his options a few weeks ago. He made recruiting visits to K-State and Nebraska. He also considered a sales pitch from new Colorado coach Deion Sanders. This was a player with options.

The Wildcats won a recruiting battle for his services.

Metzger chose K-State after visiting Manhattan twice over the past month. The high school tight end was in town for the Wildcats’ home victory over rival Kansas and then again this past weekend. Those visits helped the Wildcats seal the deal over interest from Matt Rhule and Sanders.

This is the third player that K-State has flipped during this recruiting cycle. Wide receiver Wesley Watson was committed to Colorado before switching to the Wildcats, and defensive back Will Lee was originally committed to Oregon State.

Metzger is the 23rd member of K-State’s 2023 recruiting class and the second tight end, joining Kapaun Mt. Carmel playmaker Will Anciaux.
