Why Mizzou transfer Shawn Robinson is no longer with the Kansas State football team
Shawn Robinson was expected to start at linebacker for the Kansas State football team this season, but the Missouri transfer left the Wildcats before he played a single game for his new school.
During his weekly news conference on Tuesday, K-State coach Chris Klieman explained why Robinson has not been on the sideline for games this year and why he was recently removed from the team’s roster.
“Shawn was not kicked off this football team,” Klieman said. “Shawn left for personal reasons that he needed to step away (for). I have got really good respect for that young man, and it was not a bad situation.”
When asked about Robinson in the past, Klieman never explained why the senior linebacker missed K-State’s first three games. He simply said he was a “game-time decision” heading into recent contests against Missouri and Tulane.
On Tuesday, Klieman admitted that Robinson has not been with the team for a few weeks.
“There was not something that went wrong,” Klieman said. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for Shawn. He stepped away and I supported that.”
Robinson previously played for TCU and Missouri. He started his college football career as a quarterback with the Horned Frogs but later found success on the defensive side of the ball with the Tigers.
He was viewed as a potential impact transfer when he enrolled at K-State last spring. He appeared on his way to making big plays for the Wildcats when he was listed as a starter on the team’s Week 1 depth chart.
But it wasn’t to be.
Without Robinson on the roster, Desmond Purnell and Khalid Duke have been splitting time at outside linebacker this season.
