The Kansas State football team has added some diversity to its 2023 recruiting class.

Kameron Sallis, a 6-foot-2 and 195-pound defensive back from Kennedale, Texas, announced his intentions to play for the Wildcats on Tuesday.

Two things make him different from the other four recruits K-State has landed during the 2023 cycle. For starters, he is the first member of the group who plays defense. He is also the first member of the group who doesn’t currently live in the Sunflower State.

The Wildcats acted quickly as they branched out and began recruiting Sallis. Chris Klieman and his coaching staff spotted him at a high school camp in Texas and then invited him to Manhattan for an unofficial recruiting visit this past weekend.

Clearly, things went well on that trip.

Sallis also held scholarship offers from Arizona State, Georgetown, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona and Tulane. He could have taken his time and visited some of those other schools before making a decision. Sallis even had a visit scheduled with Tulane for this week. But he was sold on K-State.

Rivals lists Sallis as a safety, and that is also where he projects to play at the next level for the Wildcats. But defensive backs have moved around in the secondary quite a bit under Klieman, so his development and position could be interesting to monitor.

Sallis is the second football recruit who has committed to K-State in the past few days. Receiver Andre Davis gave his pledge to the Wildcats on Sunday, following Camden Beebe, Will Anciaux and Wesley Fair.
