Former Kansas State Wildcats star Michael Bishop makes ballot for college football hall

Another year, another spot on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot for Michael Bishop.

The former Kansas State quarterback is once again being considered for induction into one of college football’s most prestigious groups, as he was among the 80 former FBS players listed on the 2023 ballot released on Monday.

Is this the year voters decide he is worthy of the Hall?

Bishop, and most K-State football fans, are no doubt hoping the answer to that question is yes. Bishop’s name has been appearing on the ballot since 2016. Every year, it seems, he gets enough votes to warrant further consideration but not enough to earn induction.

Perhaps this time will be different.

One of the best quarterbacks in K-State history, Bishop remains one of the most popular players to ever suit up for the Wildcats, even though he only spent two years in Manhattan.

Bishop guided K-State to an 11-1 record in 1997 and an 11-2 record in 1998 as the team’s starting quarterback. As a junior, he helped the Wildcats defeat Syracuse in the Fiesta Bowl. As a senior, he led the Wildcats to an 11-0 start and the first No. 1 ranking in team history.

He was runner up for the Heisman Trophy in 1998 and won the Davey O’Brien Award after amassing 3,592 yards that season.

The announcement of the 2023 class will be made in early 2023, with specific details to be announced in the future. The class will be inducted at a ceremony on Dec. 5, 2023.
