Jerome Tang adds two new basketball prospects to Kansas State’s 2022 recruiting class

Jerome Tang’s first basketball roster at Kansas State is beginning to come into focus.

The Wildcats landed a pair of new recruits on Monday.

The first was Dorian Finister. The 6-foot-5 guard from New Orleans publicly committed to the Wildcats and then singed scholarship papers with K-State early in the afternoon. He is the first high school recruit that Tang has landed since he was hired in Manhattan and the third incoming player overall.

A few hours later, Nae’qwan Tomlin joined him in K-State’s 2022 recruiting class. Tomlin is a 6-foot-8 and 195-pound wing from Chipola College in New York. He averaged 11 points and 4.6 rebounds while playing in 24 games last season. He also shot 37.5% from three-point range.

Both players committed to the Wildcats shortly after they visited campus over the weekend.

As of now, that gives K-State seven players for the 2022-23 season. More basketball pledges could be on the horizon.

Shawn Phillips, a four-star forward, also visited K-State over the weekend. But he announced that he was still mulling his options after it came to an end. He is expected to make his choice on May 17.

K-State is also in the running for coveted Detroit transfer Antoine Davis, who averaged 23.9 points last season. Later this week, the Wildcats are expected to host five-star forward Julian Phillips on an official visit.

Finister explained why he chose the Wildcats following a ceremony at his school.

“I chose Kansas State University because I went on a visit and it was like no other,” Finister said. “The facilities were great, the support is great, everything about it was great. It made me feel at home and I am big on home. I am going to miss everyone here. I went up there and they really made me feel like I would survive and get better.”

Finister is a three-star recruit who held scholarship offers from 12 other schools, including Houston and Texas A&M.

He expects big things from himself at K-State.

“It’s one more step to the NBA,” he said. “That’s my ultimate goal.”

Tang also has high expectations for Finister.

“Dorian is another great addition to our family,” Tang said in a statement. “We really think he can develop into an outstanding player here at K-State. It all starts with him being a quality young man with a terrific family. I know he can’t wait to get here and start working with the players and the staff to help elevate our program.”

Finister will join Markquis Nowell and Mississippi State transfer Cam Carter in the backcourt next season.

Returning forward Ismael Massoud will play alongside incoming recruit Taj Manning, LSU transfer Jerrell Colbert and Tomlin in the frontcourt.
