Kansas State Wildcats football team loses young defensive lineman to transfer portal

The Kansas State football team will be down another defensive lineman for the remainder of spring practice, and beyond.

Brayden Wood, a 6-foot-2 and 282-pound redshirt freshman defensive tackle, has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal.

Wood had been with the Wildcats for more than a year, but he did not see any playing time during his first season with the team. A native of Niwot, Colorado, Wood will now look to continue his college football career elsewhere.

K-State signed Wood as a member of its 2021 recruiting class. He was a three-star recruit coming out of high school and chose the Wildcats over Boise State, Colorado State, Hawaii, Louisville and Washington State.

Chris Klieman said earlier this month that the Wildcats were struggling to scrimmage for long amounts of time during spring practice because they were down a number of injured players on the defensive line.

Without Wood, their depth on the defensive line will dwindle even more.

Wood is the 12th football transfer the Wildcats have lost since the start of the 2021 season.
