Wildcats land high profile walk-on from Lawrence with family ties to both KU, K-State
Just about any college football fan in the Sunflower State should recognize the name Jet Dineen.
His oldest brother, Joe, is a former standout linebacker for the Kansas Jayhawks. Another one of his siblings, Jay, is currently a member of the KU football team. And his other brother, Jax, currently plays fullback for the Kansas State Wildcats. Fans on both sides of the Sunflower Showdown rivalry have been watching members of the Dineen family play football since 2014.
That’s not going to change anytime soon.
On Monday, Jet Dineen announced that he will also play college football in the Big 12. The 5-foot-11 and 180-pound athlete from Lawrence has announced that he plans to enroll at K-State and join the Wildcats as a walk-on next season. He will reunite with his older brother Jax in Manhattan.
“First off I want to start by thanking all the coaches that have recruited me and given me the opportunity to play for their university,” Dineen wrote. “I want to thank everyone for supporting me throughout this process. I want to thank my coaches, teammates and trainers for pushing me to be my best.
“I want to thank my family but especially my mom, dad and three brothers for always pushing me, supporting me, and for always being in my corner. With that being said, I am excited to announce that I am committing to Kansas State University.”
It is unclear what position the youngest of the four Dineen brothers will play for the Wildcats. But he was a quarterback for Free State High School.
Dineen held scholarship offers from Pittsburg State and Northwest Missouri State. He also had offers to join KU, K-State and SMU as a preferred walk-on. After mulling over his options, he chose the Wildcats.
His older brother has been a regular contributor for Chris Klieman since he arrived at K-State in 2019. Jax Dineen has amassed 138 all-purpose yards while playing in 12 games for the Wildcats.
