Kansas State Wildcats land football transfer who has played for Chris Klieman before
Chris Klieman has some history with Kansas State’s newest incoming transfer.
Josh Hayes, a 5-foot-11 and 186-pound defensive back from Lakeland, Florida, announced on Friday that he will enroll at K-State and finish his college football career with the Wildcats after previously making tackles for both North Dakota State and Virginia.
Hayes originally signed with North Dakota State as a freshman back in 2017 and spent the next two seasons playing for Klieman while the Bison won a pair of FCS championships. Hayes remained at North Dakota until 2020, piling up 132 tackles and making two interceptions while he played in 52 games. Klieman left for K-State in 2019.
Now they will reunite.
Hayes decided to transfer to Virginia last season but he still has one year of college eligibility remaining because he only played in three games with the Cavaliers and retained his redshirt status. He was originally expected to play more at Virginia, but a preseason injury held him back. His original senior season at North Dakota State didn’t count against him either, because the NCAA froze eligibility during 2020 in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
It will be interesting to see where Hayes lines up in the secondary next season. He has mostly played cornerback in the past, but the Wildcats could also use him at nickelback following the departure of Reggie Stubblefield.
Hayes is the second transfer that K-State has landed this week.
The Wildcats also picked up a commitment from Nebraska transfer quarterback Adrian Martinez on Thursday.
