Bowl season is a beautiful time of year for college football players, because it is one of the few occasions when they are permitted to accept gifts without any fear of violating NCAA rules.

Game organizers are allowed to offer participants up to $550 worth of gifts each postseason. Players happily accept them as a reward for all the hard work they put in order to reach a bowl.

It’s possible bowl gifts may have lost some of their luster now that student-athletes are allowed to sign endorsement deals and make money off their name, image and likeness at any point while they are enrolled in school. But here’s guessing the majority of Kansas State football players are still looking forward to bringing home a bag loaded with swag after they play against LSU on Jan. 4 in the Texas Bowl.

For most of them, it’s the only type of bonus they will get.

The Texas Bowl has an assortment of gifts ready to hand out to players on both sides of the game, according to a bowl spokesperson. As you might expect, some of the gifts are cowboy themed.

Here’s the list:

  • Access to a gift suite
  • Nike backpack
  • Nike hat
  • Nike drawstring bag
  • Belt Buckle
  • Cowboy hat
  • Team branded bandanna

It is unclear what items K-State and LSU players will be able to choose from in the bowl’s gift suite, but most postseason games offer an assortment of gift cards, appliances, TVs, video game systems and other things you might normally find at Best Buy.

Each player can pick what he likes best.

There are only two restrictions on bowl gifts. They can’t exceed $550 in total value, and players are not permitted to sell any of their gifts after they receive them.

After missing out on a bowl last season, K-State players will get a few extra presents this year when they arrive in Houston.
