K-State linebacker announces transfer plans ahead of regular-season finale at Texas
A Kansas State linebacker who has played in 35 games for the Wildcats has decided to transfer and finish his college football career elsewhere.
Wayne Jones, a 6-foot junior from Owasso, Okla., announced Wednesday that he has placed his name in the NCAA transfer portal ahead of K-State’s final game of the regular season at Texas.
He will be considered a graduate transfer who has two years of eligibility remaining.
“I want to thank Coach (Chris) Klieman and staff for the opportunity to play the game I love while obtaining my degree,” Jones wrote on social media. “I also want to thank K-State fans for making this a special place to be a part of. After a long night of prayer, I have decided to enter the transfer portal as a graduate student. Thank you all for the support through my K-State career!”
Jones departs Manhattan after making 93 tackles over four seasons with the Wildcats. He played multiple positions at K-State. Originally, he was a defensive back and started all 13 games there as a redshirt freshman in 2019. But he transitioned to linebacker while playing in all 10 games this season.
As a junior, Jones made 11 tackles while starting in three games.
He is the second K-State football player to announce transfer plans this season. The other was Aamaris Brown, a 5-foot-10 defensive back from Seffner, Fla.
K-State lost another player this week when Klieman announced that redshirt freshman receiver Jaelon Travis had been dismissed for violating team rules.
