Kansas State’s Deuce Vaughn in contention for prestigious college football award
Is Deuce Vaughn the best running back in college football?
The folks in charge of handing out the Doak Walker Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s top running back, seem to think the answer might be yes.
Vaughn, a sophomore, was named a semifinalist for the prestigious award on Wednesday along with nine others.
The other contenders are Wichita native Breece Hall (Iowa State), Bijan Robinson (Texas), Abram Smith (Baylor), Tyler Allgeier (BYU), Tyler Badie (Missouri), TreVeyon Henderson (Ohio State), Sincere McCormick (UTSA), Sean Tucker (Syracuse) and Kenneth Walker III (Michigan State).
Vaughn earned the recognition while putting together an impressive season at Kansas State. He is on the verge of recording his first 1,000-yard rushing season with the Wildcats, and he is also closing in on 500 yards as receiver.
He currently has 987 rushing yards and 427 receiving yards.
Those numbers have made him one of the top all-purpose running backs in the nation.
Vaughn is the first Wildcat to be named a semifinalist for the award since Daniel Thomas in 2010. Prior to Thomas, Darren Sproles was one of three finalists in 2003.
Finalists will be announced on Nov. 23 and the award will be presented on Dec. 9 live on ESPN.
